Vidura

Incarnation Of Yamaraaj in Mahabharat

Many people are unaware of the fact that there existed one person in Mahabharat who was the incarnation of Yamaraaj (also known as God of Death and Justice). So who was he and what was his role in this epic, why did Yamaraaj took his form? Let's find the answer to these questions.

Yamaraaj was cursed by Rishi Mandavya for impaling(method of executing) Rishi without any valid reason. He cursed Yamaraaj that he would be born as the son of a maid. So, in the mortal world, he was born as Vidura.

Vidura, Prime Minister of Hastinapura and uncle of both Pandavas and Kauravas, also considered as Dharamraaj was born through Rishi Vyasa and Parishrami, maid of queens Ambika and Ambalika, When Vichitravirya (Grand Father of Kauravas and Pandavas) died without any child, Rishi Vyasa helped Hastinapura to get their king. Dhritrashtra, Pandu, and Vidura were sons of Vyas, out of which Vidura was the healthiest and most knowledgable, besides being on Kaurava's side he always stood for Dharma and fought for justice, he also saved Pandavas from evil plans of Suyodhana (popularly known as Duryodhana), he also tried to stop Yudhistra from playing Dyut (Game of Dice).

Despite being the incarnation of Yamaraaj and on the side of evil, Vidura did not forget his Dharma and always fought for justice. We should also follow this habit of Vidura, that whatever may be the situation we should always stand for truth and stand for our Dharma (duties).
